Fans got a real treat during the finale of the Disney+ hit Loki when during a post-credit scene, it’s confirmed that the show will be back for a season 2. The words “LOKI WILL RETURN IN SEASON 2” comes with the God of Mischief’s TVA form being stamped with the exciting news. Based on the storylines set up throughout season 1, there is obviously a great deal left to tell about the character and Tom Hiddleston has hinted in the past that he was up for more.
Loki is the first of the MCU/Disney+ collaborations to score a second season. WandaVision was always designed to be a limited series, while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is still awaiting word on whether it will return.
The show kicked off following the events of the trickster escaping with the Tesseract during the botched New York-leg of Avengers: Endgame’s time heist, and though he was arrested, the Time Variance Authority stepped in to help manage the correct flow of time.
So, instead of being reprimanded for deviating from his pre-determined path, Agent Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) recruited him on a mission to hunt down a rogue Loki variant, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino).
Things go unexpectedly when Loki and Sylvie decide to team-up instead to hunt down the being behind the TVA after they discovered that the Time-Keepers do not actually exist.
And as season 1 came to a close, Sylvie forces the God of Mischief back into the TVA, though Loki is now transported to a different version of the same organization—one where Kang the Conqueror openly manages the bureau.
That’s sure to set up some interesting storylines for season 2. Just when Loki will return to Disney+ is anyone’s guess, as Marvel is notoriously mum on those type of announcements, and Marvel Studios has its hands full with the new slate of MCU films coming out over the next year.
Plus, with Kang the Conqueror already involved in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and probably set for appearances in other MCU films, the continuity of what he does in Loki will need to make sense.
Whatever the timeframe though, Marvel fans are surely thrilled that Hiddleston and more Loki are on the way.
