Jon Watts Set to Direct New Fantastic Four Film

It’s been five years since the Fantastic Four last made its way to the big screen, though the movie, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bel wasn’t the blockbuster expected, and the foursome never found their way into the story arcs of any of the Marvel Universe films.

So, when rumors came out last year that a new version of the Fantastic Four was being considered—fans of the popular comic were thrilled. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige even hinted at it during the last Comic-Con.

Now, according to SYFY Wire, the movie has been confirmed with Marvel Studios’ announcement that the Fantastic Four will make the leap to the screen under the Marvel Cinematic Universe banner with Jon Watts directing.

Watts is best known for directing both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, so his cred with Marvel fans is sky high.

During Disney’s Investor Day presentation on Dec. 10, a new logo for the Fantastic Four film was also revealed, though no other details were given about the film. So as of now, no writer or stars have been attached and the film currently isn’t scheduled on the Marvel Universe calendar.

Originally created by Marvel Icons Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1961, the Fantastic Four were Marvel’s first superhero team, and really started the whole Marvel Universe itself. The adventures of Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and the Thing gave rise of a number of key Marvel concepts, including the Skrulls, Doctor Doom, Black Panther and the Inhumans.

With the experienced Watts on board to direct the new feature, it’s a good bet that there will be some fun and surprising Marvel Universe guest stars in the film as well, as the Fantastic Four finally get the Big Screen treatment they deserve.
