Johnny Depp discusses he originally planned to help write the next Pirates of the Caribbean which would’ve been the sixth film in the Pirates franchise. Disney fired the actor in response to the domestic violence allegations.

Depp revealed details about being terminated in his testimony Monday morning in the defamation trial against Amber Heard — Depp’s ex-wife. When the Aquaman star claimed to be a domestic abuse survivor in a 2018 Washing Post article, Disney released Johny Depp from his contract ending their relationship with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.

Depp is fighting to revive his reputation and career in the current lawsuit filed against Amber Heard. Being terminated from Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is only one of the losses he faced. Warner Bros. also asked Depp to step down from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. He played Grindelwald, the former lover-turned-enemy of Dumbledore in the Harry Potter spinoff. Depp and his legal team continue to fight for victory in the defamation suit against Heard. Depp claims the allegations and sexual abuse outlined in Heard’s article are fraudulent.

CBS News live-streams the court proceedings with many viewers tuning in to watch Depp give a more detailed account of his experience which also includes being fired from Disney. Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow has become an iconic part of Disney and possibly the most beloved part of the Pirates of the Caribbean films. The actor describes his feelings after losing the role suddenly. Depp wanted to really be active in ending the Pirates franchise.

Johnny Depp Reveals Details About Disney and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise:

“I didn’t quite understand how after that long relationship and quite a successful relationship, certainly for Disney, that suddenly I was guilty until proven innocent… I, in fact, had been approached to take part in writing Pirates 6… my feeling was that these characters should be able to have their proper goodbye, as it were. A franchise can only last for so long, and there’s a way to end a franchise like that. And I thought that the characters deserved… to end their franchise on a very good note. I planned on continuing until it was time to stop.”

Depp never really faced severe consequences until Heard published her article in 2018. The actor was blocked by the Mickey Mouse house from all future participation in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise before any evidence was found against him. Depp pointed out his punishment came before having a chance to prove his innocence. Disney’s decision came as a surprise to the actor and his fans ending a 20-year long relationship between the actor and the studio.

The Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial continues in its third week.
