Jennifer Garner Returning As Elektra for Deadpool 3

Marvel fans got a few breaking news nuggets this week regarding the upcoming third Deadpool film. First, there has been rumors of Ben Affleck joining the cast of Deadpool 3. It’s still hasn’t been confirmed if he’ll be reprising his role as Daredevil. Then, fans got to see Ryan Reynolds in full costume during a London shoot. Now, it’s been reported that Jennifer Garner will be returning as Elektra for Deadpool 3.

This will be Garner’s first time playing Elektra in almost 2 decades. Jennifer Garner’s Elektra debuted in 2003’s Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck in the titular role. Then a couple years later, Garner starred in her own Elektra spinoff movie in 2005. This news comes as rumors circled around Affleck’s possible return as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in Deadpool 3.

Garner previously starred alongside Reynolds in Netflix’s sci-fi flick The Adam Project, which was helmed by Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy.

Deadpool 3 is written by Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin (Bob’s Burgers). It was reported that Deadpool and Deadpoll 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are returning to contribute to the script.

Joining the cast of Deadpool 3 are franchise veterans Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus. Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen also join the cast in unknown roles. But the biggest casting news was Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine, which Reynolds announced last year in a video.

“I think you’re giving me too much credit,” Reynolds explained in a previous interview with Collider. “I don’t believe that I’m responsible for Hugh coming back. I always wanted Hugh to come back. My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I’m not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time. And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he’d be interested in coming back and doing this one more time. And the contents of that conversation, I’ll let Hugh, because I know it’s only inevitable that you and Hugh are going to speak at some point soon, I’m sure. I’ll let Hugh answer that on his own. But he expressed interest in coming back, and then it was my job to take that to Kevin Feige one more time and sell it.”

After Disney’s buyout of 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios has been gradually introducing the X-Men characters into the MCU including Patrick Stewart’s appearance Professor Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Deadpool 3 will continue doing the same.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled to release in theaters May 3, 2024. What do you think about Jennifer Garner coming back as Elektra? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
