Fear the Walking Dead will return to AMC on April 11, and if the trailer for the opening episode is any indication, Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) may be turning into something early Negan would be proud of.
In the teaser sneak peek for the nine-episode Season 6B, Strand stays silent as Virginia and the Rangers collect his former comrades, Grace, Daniel, Luciana and Sarah and does nothing to help.
This plays into what she said to him last season when she told him to get ready for the big show. It appears that he is. But looks can be deceiving. Although Strand has played both sides before, doing what’s best for his own survival, last season saw him becoming more a team player before being brought into Virginia’s camp.
“Strand has evolved in the last few seasons,” Domingo told the AMC Blog recently. “I think Alicia has a version of Strand in her mind: she knows his heart, she know he cares for her, and he’s someone she could depend on. He’s pushing her away because he has to do some things that she may not like, things that may challenge her understanding of him.”
The actor also was open about how Strand is getting a little bit more dangerous and perhaps turning into a true Virginia ally with his misdeeds. But most fans believe he will eventually turn on her and help his friends get the life they want and deserve.
“He wants Alicia to remember that version of him, because that’s important,” Domingo said. “He can’t have her present because it’s going to challenge the things that he needs to do. He has to make some really tough decisions in order to survive. He doesn’t want to soil her vision of him, so she has to go away so he can become the man he needs to be in order to save them all.”
A showdown between Virginia’s and Morgan’s crews is most definitely in the cards, and Strand may be the difference maker one way or another.
