It’s the return of the Jedi. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hayden Christensen is sticking around for another Star Wars Universe appearance. The Star Wars actor will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker in the upcoming Lucasfilm and Disney Plus series, Ahsoka.
The live-action series features Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano — a Jedi Knight who survived during the Clone Wars. Ahsoka was a fan-favorite in the animation side of the Star Wars Universe. Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano made her live-action debut in the second season of The Mandalorian.
Details for the Ahsoka series and Christensen are still light years away, but it’s been known for a long time that Star Wars veteran Dave Filoni will be writing the series and Jon Favreau will serve as executive producer. The Filoni-Favreau team has made The Mandalorian a big success among critics and fans and working together on this series gives a new hope.
It’s unclear how Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader will fit into the series. Like The Mandalorian, the Ahsoka series is set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi when he died.
The Relationship Between Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka was the padawan (apprentice) of Anakin Skywalker. Perhaps Hayden Christensen will appear in the form of flashbacks. But fans have seen dead Jedis come back before and there are sources saying Anakin may come come back as a Force Ghost.
Christensen famously played Anakin Skywalker in two Star Wars prequel movies — 2000’s Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Even with some mixed reviews of Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin, fans went wild at last years Disney Investors Day when the actor was announced he’d be coming back to star alongside Ewan McGregor once again in the live-action Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Both will reprise their Star Wars prequel roles.
Disney had their lips sealed when asked about the return of Darth Maul. Production for the Ahsoka series is scheduled to begin early 2022.
