The Golden Globe Awards were back on television Tuesday night, January 10, after last year’s scandals and backlash over the lack of diverse representation in the Hollywood Press Association. The award show was hosted by Jerrod Carmichael. He opened the show addressing the controversy. Then, the show carried on. Here are the winners of the Golden Globes 2023 with some highlights.
Golden Globes 2023 Winner Ke Huy Quan Wins For His Supporting Role In Everything Everywhere All At Once
If you were around in the 80s, you may know Ke Hu Quan, but as child actor. He played a couple roles in 2 iconic films — Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies. Hollywood isn’t all that promising to child actors. It’s not unusual for them to fizzle out of their young career. As for Quan, he stepped away from the entertainment industry on his own. Fortunately for Quan, who is 51 years old now, was given an opportunity to revive his career. Not only did he just come back, he made an impression. He was given a Golden Globe award for his supporting role in Everything Everywhere Everywhere All at Once. He gave an emotional speech thanking director Steven Spielberg for giving him his first acting opportunity. Then continued to thank Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for another opportunity more than 30 years later.
Angela Bassett: First Marvel Actor To Win A Golden Globe
No matter how well the do in the box office or how well-received they are by critics, comic book movies and their actors are usually snubbed by award shows with less than a handful of exceptions — Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight. Angela Bassett, 64 years-old, won an award at the Golden Globes 2023 for her performance as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Winning the award makes her the first actor to win a major acting award for a movie based on Marvel Comics.
“I got to find my words. I’m so nervous. My heart is just beating,” Bassett said as she accepted the Golden Globe Award. “The late Tony Morrison said that your life is already a miracle of chance just waiting for you to order its destiny. But in order for that destiny to manifest, I think that it requires courage to have faith. It requires patience, as we just heard. And it requires a true sense of yourself. It’s not easy because the past is circuitous and it has many unexpected detours, but, by the grace of God, I stand here. I stand here grateful.”
