A giant, 60-foot Gundam robot takes its first tentative steps. And while it may not be ready to be shot into space to serve in the Earth Federation, this engineering spectacle is still amazing to see especially for fans and those afraid of kaiju attacks. In the video, you can see the size in relation to the technicians on cranes. Check out the video below.
The upcoming Gundam Factory Yokohama amusement theme park began construction on a 25-ton, 60-foot replica of the franchise’s iconic giant mech suit. Engineers started in January and what they’ve been able to do so far is no short feat. It’s already amazing to see something like this be built, but according to Popular Mechanics, it will have 24-degrees of freedom, which will allow it to walk around. Yes! It will walk. “We are cancelling the apocalypse!” Oh wait, wrong franchise.
Support structures are holding it up as it lifts its legs and somewhat does a bow. Despite Covid-19 slowing down construction around the world, this Gundam robot is scheduled to be fully operational in October. For now, we’ll continue watching giant robots duke it out on tv.
The giant Gundam robot resides in the Port of Yokohama outside of Tokyo. It’s close to the Pacific Ocean and it’ll remain there for a year. Kaiju beware.
