Disney+ is getting ready to release its next Marvel series, this time focusing on the duo of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which will premiere on March 19, just as the streamer’s hit show WandaVision comes to a close.
In a new trailer for the show which gets its name from the two popular comic characters, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will have many familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe attached.
Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier)
First up are the title characters themselves, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes played by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, respectively. The trailer reveals the odd couple will come to some sort of unhappy alliance. It seems Sam will be exploring the legacy of the Captain America mantle, while Bucky will have to deal with the fact that Steve trusted someone above him to don the shield. Expect some bickering to come along with the heroics.
Baron Zemo
Daniel Bruhl will be reprising his role as Baron Zemo, from Captain America: Civil War, though he’s now wearing a mask. Will this supervillain continue his evil ways? In the comics, he’s not always portrayed as the bad guy, and Marvel has been known to throw some twists into their stories lately.
Sharon Carter
Emily VanCamp is also making an appearance as Sharon Carter, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent 13, though who she is now working for is anyone’s guess. With a deep connection to Steve, it’s a good bet she’ll be an alley to Sam and Bucky.
Flag-Smasher
Fans may be most excited to see Erin Kellyman who will reportedly be taking on an unnamed villain role. According to the trailers, she’ll be part of a reimagining of the Captain America foe known as Flag-Smasher. Flag-Smasher runs an organization called ULTIMATUM, which could potentially be what we’ve seen in the trailers.
John Walker/U.S. Agent
Finally, Wyatt Russell will step into the role of John Walker (aka US Agent), the nuanced antagonist for Captain America. While he does his best to live up to Steve’s legacy, he can’t control his own brutality and often crosses the line.
If WandaVision has taught us anything, expect other familiar faces to pop up during the show’s run.
