There’s been quite a few Shazam! updates as production is now underway for the sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Earlier on Thursday, set photos were revealed of the film’s star, Zachary Levi, wearing an updated version of the costume. The image gave fans the best look yet at the sequel of the 2019 hit DC movie. Thursday night, Shazam! director David F. Sandberg teased fans even more by releasing an official clip that provides a new look at the costume. But there’s a catch. The clip is pretty much cloaked in darkness.

The director previously teased on social media that Billy (Zachary Levi) would sport a “new suit” for the Shazam! sequel. Now fans can have the first visual of the teased new costume. Sort of.
The Shazam! costume went through changes throughout the production of the first film. The costume for the sequel may get the same treatment.
“Yes, there were a few iterations,” Sandberg said in an interview with Heroic Hollywood back in 2018. “And you sort of have to keep changing stuff even after we started shooting because you realize things… You shoot the first scene and Zach (Levi) is like, ‘You know, I can’t move my hands properly with these gauntlets.’ So, we had to redesign that, or like the boots kept falling apart so it’s like, ‘Oh well, I guess we have to do something different there,’ It was sort of a constant process of updating and making it work better.”
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will continue Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) story along with his foster family who were also given superpowers that were first given to Billy by an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou), which transformed the children into adult-sized superheroes.
The DC film also stars Jack Dylan Grazer, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Faithe Herman, Grace Fulton, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, D.J. Cotrona, Meagan Good, and Michelle Borth. New Shazam! cast members include Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled to debut in theaters on June 2, 2023.
