HBO Max released a new Same Day trailer this morning. A quick The Suicide Squad clip with John Cena’s Peacemaker character about to drop an F-bomb right before it cut to another clip casting away any doubt this DCEU film will have an R-rating.
The clip shows Robert DuBois/Bloodsport (Idris Elba) telling Christopher Smith/Peacemaker (John Cena), “No one likes a show-off.” Peacemaker responds by telling Bloodsport, “Unless what they’re showing off is dope as…”, which the clip gets cut right before an F-bomb.
Director James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is a soft reboot of David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad film. Gunn began filming back in September 2019 and wrapped the following year in February. According to Gunn, the film will not be delayed by the pandemic.
Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang are coming back to reprise their 2016 roles. The 2021 version will feature new characters like Michael Rooker’s Savant, Peter Capaldi’s Thinker, David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man and more.
Not much has been revealed about the plot, but Joel Kinnaman recently said that, “It’s just the silliest, most violent, and at times, it’s really moving. Just an absolutely ridiculous story. It’s… yeah, you know, honestly, I think people are gonna love it.”
The Suicide Squad is written and directed by James Gunn (The Guardians of the Galaxy/The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2). It stars John Cena as Peacemaker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Mayling NG as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Steve Agee as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid.
The Suicide Squad premieres August 6, 2021 in theaters and on HBO Max.
