Fans have to wait until Nov. 5 for the release of Marvel Studios’ much-anticipated film, Eternals, but the studio is whetting people’s appetites with the first trailer, poster for the future blockbuster, and Game of Thrones brothers, Kit Harington and Richard Madden. Directed by Chloé Zhao, recent Academy Award winner for directing Nomandland, the trailer provides fans a sense of what they can expect come November.
Most notably, the Eternals trailer offers the first look at Game of Thrones star Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, the man who becomes the Black Knight in the Marvel Comics universe. While some photos have emerged from the film’s set in recent months showing glimpses of Harington in the role—one in particular making the internet rounds was one of Whitman and Gemma Chan’s Sersi—this is the first official look at the character. The Eternals trailer even shows the first shot of the two heroes together in a scene straight out of the Avengers lure.
According to Comicbook.com, the actor had a lot to say about playing Dane Whitman during an ACE Comic-Con appearance in 2019.
“I went from a brilliant play which sort of kick started my career and Game of Thrones came along and that lasted 10 years,” Harington said at the time. “As Game of Thrones finished, Marvel came along and so what I’m really excited about is getting involved in a new world and in a new universe.”
Kit Harington on Joining the MCU as Black Knight
Being part of the Marvel juggernaut is not lost on Harington, and he’s excited to be joining the MCU.
“Coming here, I can see just how passionate people are about this world,” he said. “This is the first time I’ve met people on that level about Marvel and I’m just thrilled. It’s a whole new chapter and a whole new character to start thinking about. Without saying too much at all, on the surface, [Black Knight] can look like Jon Snow in the comics but there is actually a lot to be done that is different.”
As Marvel Comics readers know, Black Knight becomes an important part of the Avengers, so there’s a good chance that fans will be seeing much more of Harington in Marvel movies in the future.
The Eternals stars Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as Ikaris, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Kumail Nanjiani as Kongo, Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians) as Sersi, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.
