Marvel Studios is getting fans buzzing after the reveal of the title for the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Captain Marvel, which will be called, The Marvels. The name implies what fans have long suspected, that Captain Marvel won’t be the only superhero featured in the film.
Captain Marvel Team
Of course, Brie Larson will be back as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, but she will be joined by Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, who appeared earlier this year in the Disney+ series, WandaVision; and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, who is expected to be introduced in the upcoming Disney+ show of the same name sometime in the fall. That will allow fans an opportunity to get to know the character and her stretching abilities before the movie.
Nia DaCosta, best known for her work on Candyman, will direct The Marvels based on a script by WandVision scribe Megan McDonnell.
While plot details are not surprisingly being kept hush-hush, it’s been leaked that Zawe Ashton will be playing a villain in the movie.
Marvel Studios Celebrates The Movies
The studio made the announcement during an early sizzle reel drop, which includes tributes to the MCU and its upcoming planned phase four of films. In addition to The Marvels, the films in the next phase include Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Thor: Love and Thunder, Eternals, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Thor: Love and Thunder, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and a planned Fantastic Four movie with Far From Home director Jon Watts on tap to direct.
The Marvels is expected to premiere in theaters on Nov. 11, 2022. After the rousing success of the first one, this will be one of the most anticipated films of next fall.
