Don’t press that NOS button just yet, the ninth movie in the Fast & Furious franchise hits cruise control as Universal Pictures delays its debut for the second time. F9’s original release date was May 22, 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the studio’s first delay to April 2, 2021.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, F9 had to downshift again because of the ongoing pandemic delaying the movie even more to May 28, 2021 — Memorial Day Weekend. It joins multiple movie release delays like the 25th James Bond movie No Time To Die to April 2, 2021. That’s an entire year from its original release date back in April 2020, which is coincidentally, F9’s first delayed release date. Marvel Studios’s films like Black Widow and a few of their Disney+ shows have moved to 2021 also.
The Fast & Furious team have hinted the series will hit the breaks with its tenth film. Vin Diesel even hinted or teased that the final FF movie would be a two-part release. Along the lines of Harry Potter and the Hunger Games. There is no confirmation to where the series will actually turn its engine off.
FF franchise veteran, Justin Lin, directs Fast and Furious 9. Starring Vin Diesel along with Michelle Rodriguez, Charlize Theron, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Cardi B and newcomer John Cena. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham will sit this one out. F9 will be keeping its engine warm until hitting full throttle May 28, 2021.
