Speaking with Eddie Izzard, Ewan McGregor confirmed that production for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will take place in Los Angeles around spring time.
“We start making it in the late spring, and I think we’re going to be shooting it here in LA,” McGregor told Eddie Izzard. Noting the amount of media speculation surrounding where the show will be filmed, McGregor elaborated that “my dad keeps sending me links saying, ‘I thought you were going to be shooting in LA,’ because there’s another tabloid exposé that we’re shooting it in some bizarre town somewhere and then we’re meant to be making it in Boston and then we’re meant to be making… no it wasn’t Boston it was Boston, England and… but we’re not. We’re shooting it in LA.”
According to McGregor, Obi-Wan Kenobi will use the same filming technology that’s used for The Mandalorian. And he also mentioned how big of a Jon Favreau fan he is. Though when asked by Izzard if Favreau has a big hand in the series, McGregor shot it down. He just continued to explain that, “Deborah Chow is directing ours. She directed two episodes of the original, the first Mandalorian series and she’s brilliant and I’m really looking forward to working with her.”
The series will follow Kenobi’s exile to Tatooine where he’ll be watching over Luke Skywalker. The timeline will be between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. There was talk about the script being too similar to The Mandalorian so it had to be re-worked.
Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in all three films in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, will be joined by his former co-star Hayden Christensen who will be reprising his role as Darth Vader. Not officially cast is Liam Neeson who played Kenobi’s master, Qui-on Jin in The Phantom Menace, but he has expressed interest in coming back in some form.
Director Deborah Chow, who has directed a couple of episodes for The Mandalorian, will helm the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series. There is still no set date for the premiere.
