The Eternals post-credit scenes bring in another set of characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe using the new superhero team, which is not one of the most known properties even for the hardcore Marvel Comic readers, as the vehicle to introduce at least two confirmed upcoming heroes.
Eternals is a major departure from what fans have been used to with past Marvel Studios films, but even with the mediocre reviews and reportedly being banned in some international markets due to some of its adult content, Eternals is projected to perform well in the box office. The potential battle the studio and Oscar-winner director Chloé Zhao faced was getting audiences excited for a group of superheroes no one really knows about.
MOVIE SPOILERS FOR ETERNALS BELOW
Fans were not expecting the semi-cliffhanger ending to Eternals as most introductory superhero films usually have a definitive conclusion. After the Eternals stopped The Emergence and the creation of the celestial Tiamut, the remaining Eternals try to find new purpose on Earth. Sersi (Gemma Chan), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), and Sprite (Lia McHugh continue to live their lives on Earth, while Then (Angelina Jolie), Druig (Barry Keoghan), and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) set a course to outer space to look for their fellow Eternals.
Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) and Sersi reunite and while taking a stroll at a park, Arishem appears and literally plucks Sersi from Earth. The celestial has taken possession again of her, Kingo, and Sprite. All Dane can do is see his girlfriend be taken by Arishem.
ETERNALS MID-CREDIT AND POST-CREDIT SCENES
The first Eternals post-credit scene shows Thena, Druig, and Makkari pondering their next move as they move through space, they are interrupted by colorful bright lights. Two figures transport onto their ship. The first is Pip the Troll voiced by Patton Oswalt. He then introduces another Eternal played by Harry Styles, Eros, the brother of Thanos who is also known as Starfox. They offer their assistance ahead of the Eternals new mission across space. Something that may lead into Eternals 2 or an entirely new adventure.
DANE WHITMAN REVEALS BLACK KNIGHT’S EBONY BLADE
The second Eternals post-credit scene teases another major leap for the MCU as it shows Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman preparing himself to open a box. Previously, right before Sersi was taken by Arishem, Whitman was about to tell her about his family’s complicated history. Whitman finally opened the box revealing The Ebony Blade and teases his journey in becoming the Black Knight. The sword seems to emit some kind of energy as Whitman moves his hands towards it. But just before he touches the blade, a mysterious voice speaks to him without a face being revealed onscreen asking him, “Are you sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?”
First speculation was that it was Jeffrey Wright’s The Watcher, but now Eternals director confirmed to Fandom that the voice is none other than Mahershala Ali who will be playing Blade in the MCU. Yes, Blade! “That was the voice of one of my favorite superheroes, Mr. Blade himself. Blade, Blade, Blade, yeah!” Zhao confirmed.
