Marvel’s Eternals was certainly one of the studios’ more ambitious movies of Phase 4. The ensemble hero picture followed ten characters with a plot that takes place over centuries. With cosmic lore and multiple romances, it was quite the towering comic book movie. There was so much going on that there was bound to be a few Eternals deleted scenes. You can certainly sense it with how rushed some of the characters feel in their arcs. There just wasn’t enough time for everybody.
One such character was reduced to a brief cameo in the Eternals post-credit scene. After the film ends, some of the Eternals go into space and encounter Eros, played by Harry Styles. The character, better known as Starfox, briefly shows up to greet the Eternals on their starship, boasting about himself.
Lily McHugh, the actor who plays Sprite, revealed that there may have been more shot with Styles. She confirmed on her Instagram that there were more scenes they shot together. The shot she posted features herself, Styles, and Richard Madden in the outfits worn before the Eternals arrive on Earth. This could be the Eternals deleted scene with Styles.
McHugh further explained the scene:
“I actually didn’t have a scene with him. [His scene] was a scene that was cut. It was parallel to the very first scene of us arriving on Earth. It was an alternate ending that didn’t end up working out. We shot it on the same day [as our scene], because it was virtually the same. It was the same shot. They were just switching out characters.”
Big plans are still in the work for the character of Eros. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in December, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed this. He stated:
“That was fun, that was fun one. A teaser tag at the end of the movie…We have a lot of fans outside the studio, of course. But, inside the studio of Starfox, of that character, of Eros. So, as the MCU has extended into the cosmic arena, there are ideas.”
Chloé Zhao, the director of Eternals, confirmed plans for exploring Eros as well:
“Harry as Eros was very much a package deal for me. I pitched the idea of Pip the Troll and Eros to Kevin a while back. I love the idea of exploring an Eternal who is beyond Titan and who may have influenced Thanos throughout the years the same way [the] Eternals influenced us, earthlings.”
Zhao also mentioned how she wasn’t specifically looking for someone like Harry Styles but that it just worked out that way: “After meeting him, I realized he is that character—the same way I cast the rest of my cast. There’s so much of Eros in him. For me, if he says yes and Kevin says yes then it’s a go. And I’m very happy they both did.”
