It looks like fans are getting what they asked for, as Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool has made his first official appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—though it might not be where people expect.
The character appears alongside Thor: Ragnarok’s Korg, voiced by Thor: Love and Thunder director, Taika Waititi, watching a trailer for Reynolds’ new film, Free Guy. The two Marvel characters do their best Mystery Science Theater 3000 impressions, making comments about the trailer along the way.
For instance, when a rabbit hits the screen, Deadpool comments, “Maybe this is the live action Thumper movie we all haven’t been waiting for.”
Reynolds himself released the video, and captioned it, “Two members of the MCYouTube react to the upcoming film #FreeGuy featuring Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi. Free Guy. In theaters and definitely NOT streaming on August 13th.”
He spoke about the trailer on Twitter.
“If you include Deadpool’s cocaine rider, this is the most expensive reaction video ever made,” the actor Tweeted.
Last month, Reynolds hinted that he would be suiting up again by posting a photo of his getting into the notorious costume.
The appearance of Deadpool finally transitions the character from 20th Century Fox’s old X-Men movie franchise into Marvel Studios’ Avengers franchise, and that means there’s plenty of more Deadpool in our future.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige has confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in the works at Marvel Studios, with Reynolds both writing and starring in the film.
“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now,” Marvel’s president told Collider. “It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
