Today, the first Deadpool 3 set photos were posted on social media featuring Ryan Reynolds in his new, brighter red costume.
The Marvel film will reunite Reynolds with Hugh Jackman, who is reprising his role as Wolverine. Deadpool 3 is also the first film by Marvel Studios after 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney. It was reported that filming started in May despite the writer’s strike. Mirror shared the images of Reynolds as Wade Wilson and in full Deadpool gear.
Mirror states that the Deadpool 3 set photos were from a London shoot that involved a car crashing into the woods. A stunt double was also seen during that time. Fans should be excited to see the project in full swing and see Reynolds back as the Merc With A Mouth. Perhaps, we’ll start seeing Hugh Jackman in some kind costume on set soon. There’s been talk about him donning the classic blue and yellow X-Men costume with the iconic cowl.
Last year, in a video with Reynolds talking about what he wants for the next Deadpool film, it was revealed that Hugh Jackman would be playing Wolverine again in Deadpool 3 as Jackman walks across the room in the background. It was pretty clever since the two actors have been going back and forth with their friendly rivalry on social media prior to the video announcement.
The duo promised that the film will not mess with the ending of Logan. The director of Logan, James Mangold, did share his thoughts about bringing back Wolverine. He recently admitted to Variety that a part of him does wish Logan had remained Jackman’s final outing as the iconic X-men character.
“I can’t say that there’s a part of me that doesn’t wish that we’d let it be,” Mangold shared. “But there was always going to be another Wolverine. There could be a baby Wolverine and a cartoon Wolverine. As much liquid as they can squeeze out of that rag, they’re going to try to. I don’t measure my success on a movie like Logan with whether we ended the conversation. I ended my conversation.”
Still, Mangold told Comicbook.com his hopes for Deadpool 3.
“A really fun 48 Hours style buddy picture with those two,” Mangold explained in our interview for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which you can check out above. “To me, that was always… We discussed this way back in the day, Ryan, Hugh and I, and it was always this idea that you could do some kind of Walter Hill, gritty, or Midnight Run. These two, somehow on a road trip together would be magical.”
Deadpool 3 is set to release in theaters May 3, 2024. You can see the images of the Deadpool 3 set photos below.
