Fans have been clamoring for Zack Snyder’s director’s cut version of Justice League, ever since he revealed he was unhappy with the film upon the movie’s original release in 2017, with Josh Whedon finishing the director duties on the Warner Bros. film.
Finally, HBO Max has said it will air the long-fabled Snyder cut in March.
According to Comicbook.com, the revised four-hour Justin League will include numerous scenes and storylines not in the original, including some additional footage that was shot this past October.
Snyder confirmed the release date on the social media platform Vero, noting he “hopes to wipe that [other] version out of existence with what you see in March.” He added that there is an additional 150 minutes of never-before-seen action in his version.
The film brings together all the big heroes of the DC Universe, including Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
Snyder has not been shy about holding his tongue about Whedon’s involvement, and has said on multiple occasions he wouldn’t use anything in his version that he didn’t film himself.
Truth be told, Snyder has admitted he’s never even seen Whedon’s version of Justice League, so it’s hard for him to know the kind of job his fellow director did.
But Snyder believes his version of the movie needs to be told, and is the one that fans have been hoping for ever since the idea of a Justice League film first popped up.
Expect the new version to have an R rating due to profanity and violence, something much different than the PG-13 rating of the original theatrical release.
“I am looking at the actual visual effects shots because the cut is locked, so I’m just looking at these shots every day as they come in,” Snyder said during a November stream on Vero. “It’s really exciting, and I’m excited for you guys to see the giant amount of movie that you have coming your way in 2021 on HBO Max.”
