DC FANDOME: Top HIGHLIGHTS From The Event

    Top highlights from DC FanDome

The first part of DC FanDome from this past Saturday was full of reveals and awesome trailers to get fans excited about upcoming DC projects, films, and TV shows. Here are some of the DC FanDome top highlights from the event.

    Wonder Woman 1984

DC FanDome kicked off the event with WW84 director Patty Jenkins along with cast members – Gal Gadot, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Pine. Jenkins and cast shared some detail about the movie while showing some behind the scenes footage. A new trailer shows Kristen Wiig in full Cheetah mode fighting the golden eagle armored Diana.

“As much as we want to share the movie with the world, at least we figured out creative ways to communicate with our beloved, most amazing fans,” Gadot agreed. “This is a great opportunity for us to say hello and thank them and to share something from the movie.”

Wonder Woman 1984 has an October 2nd theatrical release, but as we’ve been experiencing, movie release dates seem to be fluid due to the pandemic. “We’re gonna stick it out,” director Patty Jenkins told fans. “We all believe in putting it in the cinema.”

The Snyder Cut of Justice League

Justice League director Zack Snyder came on to share more details about his Snyder cut version. There was more Superman in his black suit. With the sub-par critic and fan reactions of the theatrical release, the #releasethesnydercut fan movement led to Snyder taking back the chopped up Joss Whedon version. Snyder stepped down from directing the original released version due to family issues. The studio hired Joss Whedon (Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron) to finish the movie. Snyder’s Q&A featured guests appearances by Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller, Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins. Snyder also said there will be more Cyborg and Flash elements to his version.

The Snyder Cut of Justice League comes out on HBO Max sometime in 2021 and was reportedly going to be a mini-series consisting of 4 episodes with each episode being 1 hour.

    The Flash

Ezra Miller spent his time dropping “Flash facts” and not much about his upcoming solo movie. Director Andy Muschietti dropped an interesting detail-Bruce Wayne will be making Barry’s new suit. Which Wayne is making the suit is the mystery since both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton (Batman and Batman Returns) are in the movie, but the concept art shows Keaton’s Batman. Check it out below.

“Telling the story of one of the greatest superheroes of the DC world is a challenge, but the most important thing is that it gets to your heart,” Andy Muschietti said. Miller agreed: “You meet Andy, and you immediately can understand why he’s the perfect choice for this movie. It’s his compassion, his priority in this film in finding the heart of the story.”

The Flash will also be introducing the DC multiverse tying in different iterations of some superheroes. Primarily Batman. The Flash solo film is set to come out in 2022.

    Aquaman Sequel

Not much was spoken about the sequel during the time with Patrick Wilson and director James Wan other than a discussion about continuing the journey of Aquaman’s heroes and villains. Wan did mention that the sequel will be more serious and culturally relevant. The Aquaman sequel has no specific release date, but it’s scheduled sometime in 2022.

    The Suicide Squad

This looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. Director James Gunn said “It’s going to be different from any superhero movie ever made.” Gunn told fans during the Q&A he was excited at the chance to write Harley Quinn and thinks his movie is a sequel to John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad comics.

Gunn’s biggest reveal was the cool and massive cast:

    Viola Davis – Amanda Waller
Joel Kinnaman – Colonel Rick Flag
    Michael Rooker – Savant
    Flula Borg – Javelin
    Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn
    David Dastmalchian – Polka-Dot Man
    Daniela Melchior – Ratcatcher 2
    Idris Alba – Bloodsport
    Mayling Ng – Mongal
    Peter Capaldi – The Thinker
    Alice Braga – Sol Soria
    Pete Davidson – Blackguard
    Nathan Fillion – T.D.K.
    Sean Gunn – Weasel
    Jai Courtney – Captain Boomerang
    John Cena – Peacemaker
    Steve Agee – King Shark
Juan Diego Botto – General Silvio Luna

Gunn wrapped things up with a behind-the-scenes featurette which gave a first look at the film’s footage.

We learned it will be a 70s style gritty war movie mixed with Gunn’s comedic sense and style. The superhero/supervillain film is set to hit theaters August 6, 2021.

And last, but not least. Drumroll please…

    The Batman

Perhaps the biggest anticipated moment during DC FanDome’s August 22nd schedule was The Batman. Robert Pattinson introduces the Q&A with director Matt Reeves and moderated by DC FanDome host Aisha Tyler. Reeves gave a lot of detail without spoiling anything like explaining this film is not going to be another origin story. It will focus more on Batman’s year two of being Gotham City’s hero and showcasing more of his detective skills. Though Reeves did mention it “touches on his origins.”

This version of the caped crusader is dark! He’s still raw and will “make mistakes.” and “He’s far from perfect,” according to Reeves. A lot of fans were skeptical about the Robert Pattinson casting. Although he is a great actor, fans have attached him to his Edward character in the Twilight series. But based on the trailer revealed during DC FanDome, Pattinson is silencing his skeptics and turning them into excited fans! Reeves lengthy, but awesome segment didn’t leave us disappointed as he revealed The Batman trailer. And yes, it will leave you with chills. Check it out.

Robert Pattinson is Bruce Wayne/Batman, leading a cast that includes Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman; Paul Dano as The Riddler; Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon; John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Gotham’s district attorney; Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, a mayoral candidate in Gotham; Andy Serkis as Alfred; and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The Batman will be released sometime in 2021.
