Yes, Comic-Con 2020 in San Deigo starts on July 22, 2020. The yearly event that easily attracts more than 100K attendees, is taking place online to adhere to the coronavirus restrictions. Called Comic-Con@Home, the virtual event is housed on the main site, comic-con.org.
From Wednesday, July 22 to Sunday, July 26, Comic-Con@Home will take place! Since Comic-Con is a truly tactile experience, moving it online changes the events’ entire dynamics.
Part of the fun of traveling to the actual event is being able to watch people and get a hands-on preview of the new games and technology. That won’t happen with a virtual event. However, what fans will get is unlimited time in each Comic-Con virtual booth, no parking issues, hotel expenses, and tons of money spent on souvenirs. Now, when you think about it that way, it’s not such a bad idea.
This was the first time in their 50-year history that the yearly event was modified because of the current situation. David Clanzer, the spokesperson for the nonprofit organization was optimistic about the event’s future when he announced that Comic-Con had gone online.
“We’re very excited about bringing Comic-Con online…And it couldn’t have been achieved without the help and support of so many of our usual friends, and some new ones too.” Since the pandemic doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, this fan fave yearly event could see more conventions online in the future.
Below are links to the daily schedule:
