Cobra Kai fans got a treat Thursday night when Netflix released the premiere date for the upcoming fifth season of the hit Karate Kid spinoff series. Along with the news of the release date was the first teaser of Cobra Kai Season 5 and it look bad-ass.
Before the Cobra Kai Season 5 teaser dropped online, footage was shown at the Cobra Kai: Live & Bad Ass event — Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival in Los Angeles.
The fifth and possibly last season picks up immediately after the conclusion of Cobra Kai Season 4. The finale ended with Cobra Kai winning the All-Valley Tournament. John Kreese (Martin Love) landed in jail for being framed for assault by his treacherous friend Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith). Silver is now expanding Cobra Kai karate all over the valley and adding his personal touch to the franchise.
The teaser also shows Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) teaming up with Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) to take down Silver once and for all. Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Robbie Keene (Tanner Buchanan) head down to Mexico to look for Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) who at the end of season 4 traveled to Mexico to look for his biological father.
There are glimpses of Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser) training in some all black background against a mysterious character. There’s a glimpse of Tory Nichols (Peyton List). There was also a quick shot of what seems to be Miguel and Robbie fighting again.
The Cobra Kai Season 5 teaser had one moment where Silver threatens Daniel and Chozen. Silver says, “You’re playing with fire, Danny boy.” Chozen replies, “And I am gasoline.”
Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg serve as writers and executive producers for the hit Netflix series. Sony Pictures Television’s Cobra Kai seasons one through 4 are now streaming on Netflix.
Cobra Kai Season 5 will premiere September 9, 2022.
