Chris Evans In Talks To Return As Captain America for Future Marvel Project

It may be too early for Marvel fans to celebrate, but hearing about Chris Evans in talks to return as Captain America, though nothing has been confirmed, is already something to be excited about.

According to Deadline’s Justin Kroll, Evans is nearing a deal that would have him dust off his suit and put on those patriotic colors once again. He would be involved in a future Marvel project, but there is no word as to what that project or projects might be. It could mean the same as what Robert Downey, Jr. did after Iron Man 3. RDJ appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming and was a huge part in Captain America: Civil War. And of course, the Avengers movies.

Marvel has made no comment about Chris Evans returning.

Evans had made it clear in the past that he was done playing Captain America. “It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it’s better left that way,” said Evans during The Graham Norton Show last May. His story arc ended in Avengers: Endgame when he chose to not comeback to his normal timeline after returning the infinity stones to their appropriate place and year. Instead, he grew older and passed on the shield to his close friend, Sam Wilson aka The Falcon.

Anthony Mackie will bring Sam Wilson to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+ in March. As for Sam Wilson taking on the Captain America mantle full-time is still up in the air.

How Evans returns as Captain America still remains a puzzle, but the possibilities can be endless. In comic book inspired stories, characters who have retired or died always find a way back.

In the past years, once a character’s film franchise ends, Marvel Studios have found ways to keep their characters going in other film franchises or team ups like the four Avengers movies. And now with the MCU heading towards Disney+ where the Marvel feature film characters are crossing over back and forth to full-feature length to tv shows, the possibility of Chris Evan’s Steve Rogers returning to take back the shield wouldn’t be all that impossible.
