Here’s what we know so far about the Black Widow solo movie. At the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con Marvel Studios panel, Kevin Feige announced MCU’s Phase 4 plans for upcoming movies and Disney+ shows. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow solo movie is the first film on the schedule, which was originally supposed to be released in theaters on May 1, 2020. Due to Covid-19, the release date was pushed to November 7, 2020. Black Widow would start MCU’s phase 4.
The Black Widow Cast
Marvel Studios managed to assemble another great cast to go along with Johannson. David Harbour (Stranger Things) is playing Alexei Shostakov aka the Red Guardian. Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Little Women) is playing Yelena Belova, another Black Widow who has history with Natasha. O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) is playing Mason. Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) is playing Melina Vostokoff, who is also known as Iron Maiden in the comics. As for who’s behind Taskmaster’s mask, that hasn’t been revealed.
Behind The Scenes Crew
In 2018, Variety reported Cate Shortland (best known for 2012 indie film Lore and the thriller Berlin Syndrome) would be directing Black Widow. Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson developed the story and Thor: Ragnarok screenwriter Eric Pearson wrote the script. Lorne Balfe has taken over music duties. Balfe is known for action movie scores like Mission Impossible:Fallout and Pacific Rim:Uprising.
The Story (No spoilers)
It was confirmed at SDCC that Black Widow is set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers Infinity and probably glimpses in Natasha’s past. During this time, Natasha is on the run from the government following the clash over the Sokovia accords which forces her to reunite with her “family” (Yelena, Alexei, and Melina). Maybe she’ll “clean up” parts of her “red” past.
Taskmaster looks like the antagonist in the film. A character with photographic memory which enables him to mimic anyone’s fighting skills. In the comics, Taskmaster pretty much memorized most of the Avengers fighting styles.
