As Avatar: The Way of Water swims past $1.5 billion at the global box office, director James Cameron revealed some news for Avatar 3 and the future of the Avatar franchise — apparently, Pandora’s Na’Vi aren’t all peaceful.
A Fire Nation (reference to Avatar: The Last Airbender) is coming to the Avatar franchise. In a recent interview with French outlet 20 Minutes, James Cameron gave some insights to the franchise’s future and specifically for Avatar 3 which will introduce the Fire Na’Vi.
“The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides,” Cameron revealed “In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds while continuing the story of the main characters.”
With the first two Avatar films setting box office records, Cameron can keep bringing the world of Pandora to audiences and introducing the Ash People is one way to expand the Avatar franchise.
“I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal. But, obviously, everything will depend on how Avatar 2 will be received, if it will find its audience.”
Well, crossing $1.5 billion, it’s safe to say Avatar: The Way of Water was well-received by audiences. It raked in $1 billion globally in just 14 days. So yes, more Avatar films are on their way. This time, according to Cameron, the Sky People aren’t the only ones our protagonists would have to confront when the nation of the Fire Na’Vi attacks in Avatar 3.
Cameron has also shot scenes for Avatar 3 and 4. In doing so, the “Stranger Things effect” won’t happen avoiding younger actors aging between the years of production.
