WARNING: this article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The most anticipated Spider-Man movie of the decade, Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally hit theaters with appearances from some original faces, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who delivered heartfelt and unscripted dialogue in this latest film.
Andrew Garfield Shines In Spider-Man: No Way Home
That’s right—all three Peter Parkers appear in this web-bending adventure to take down the nearly-there Sinister Six. Brought into the same Marvel Cinematic Universe by Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) spell—and one that the Tom Holland version of Spider-Man required to get the public off his back—the multiverse “brothers” are united in this epic showdown of trust, spidey sense, and swinging action.
Together, it is the Amazing Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield), the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire), and the newest Spider-Man (Tom Holland) fighting back against some of the best supervillains and masterminds from all the Spider-Mans combined. Just before battle, Garfield, or Spidey #2, says, “I love you guys.” The other two Spider-Men respond withs, “Thank you,” though later, Spidey #1 (Maguire) hugs them both before returning to their home universe.
Later, Garfield admitted to Variety, “There’s a line I improvised in the movie, [where] I tell them I love them…That was just me loving them.”
Garfield was last suited up in 2014 for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, having more recently starred in the lead role for the hit Netflix movie, Tick, Tick…Boom! He was grateful to be back in the webs with Maguire and Holland, claiming that the three shared off-screen chemistry and developed a strong, brotherly connection.
The “Middle Brother” Role
“I think the first time we were all in the suit together, it was hilarious because it’s like just three ordinary dudes who were just actors just hanging out. But then also, you just become a fan and say, ‘Oh my god we’re all together in the suits and we’re doing the pointing thing!’” Garfield said the three actors oftens joked around and dove into deeper conversations about their experiences playing the character. It was the first time in cinematic history the three had been together for the same role, and it was something that fans really adored.
Co-writer Chris McKenna told The Hollywood Reporter that Garfield “really leaned hard” into the lonely, middle brother stereotype. While filming, Maguire inherently became the elder, wise brother, with Holland took on the precious, baby brother role.
It was clear all three actors had a ton of fun shooting, and their chemistry and hard work showed on-screen. Spider-Man: No Way Home also stars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Willem Dafoe, and Alfred Molina, among others like Jamie Foxx and Benedict Cumberbatch. This much-anticipated film is now playing exclusively in theaters. Get your tickets today and check out this emotional, epic, and fun-loving film!
