As fans eagerly await the upcoming six-episode of Marvel’s Secret Invasion series to debut on Disney+, some new tidbits and images are already leaking out — specifically, Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke.
The Marvel adaptation, based on the popular Marvel comic series released in 2018, includes a stellar cast of Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury), Emilia Clarke, Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Carmen Ejogo, Christopher McDonald, and Killian Scott.
“Like all of [Marvel’s] adaptations, it’s definitely not a one-to-one adaptation of the comic books, although it takes a lot of that kind of paranoid spirit, and runs with it,” Jonathan Schwartz, the heralded Marvel producer, said last year when announcing the series. “I think that’s literally everything I can say about it. We’re going to leave the secret in Secret Invasion for now.”
One thing that is known thanks to some leaked footage that appeared on Twitter this week, is Emilia Clark’s character will be fighting for her life. Although her identity is being kept under wraps, internet rumors suggest she could be a gender bent Quartermaine.
In the video, her character is down on the ground with a large figure looming over her, their hand around her neck. Clarke is seen making a jerking movement, perhaps setting up her escape from the situation.
Since the figure is adorned in motion capture gear, it’s likely the character doing the fighting is something other than human, possibly Skrull, given Secret Invasion’s known premise.
In the comics, Secret Invasion includes practically every character in the Marvel Universe, though Marvel’s Secret Invasion show on Disney+ won’t be as jam packed with characers.
“Well, there were more characters in the Secret Invasion comic series than there were in Endgame so, no,” Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige told ComicBook.com during an interview last year. “It’s not that, but it very much is a showcase for Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelson and tapping into the paranoia elements of the Secret Invasion comic series that was great with the twists and turns that that took. So, that’s certainly our focus more than, ‘Can we cram in more characters than Endgame?’”
Emilia Clarke isn’t the first Game of Thrones actor to join the MCU. Richard Madden and Kit Harington made their Marvel debut in last year’s Eternals.
Marvel’s Secret Invasion will debut on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
