The DC Extended Universe hasn’t had too much success with The Justice League of other super-powered groups outside of perhaps the Suicide Squad. But now it seems that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will introduce the next great grouping of DC heroes — the Justice Society.
The iconic group, which has been part of the DC comic canvas since 1940, has served as a collective of mentors and trainees spanning across generations and experience levels.
The Justice Society actually made its debut two decades before the Justice League, and will finally get a taste of the big screen in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, with the team of Atom Smasher, Hawkman, Cyclone and Doctor Fate introduced.
As with most DC projects, story details have been relatively rumor-free so far, but with the box office bomb of The Justice League (though the Snyder cut of Justice League saved the group somewhat) it’s easy to see the Justice Society being major players for the DCEU going forward.
The heroes of the Justice Society boast superheroes with abilities that differ immensely from the Justice League, so fans won’t be seeing just reinventions of the Man of Steel or the fastest man on Earth.
There’s no doubt, the DCEU would like to tap into the market and fare that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has found with its Avengers movies. And the Justice Society may be its best bet of doing so.
With all the excitement about the release of Black Adam and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stepping into the DCEU with the character, the introduction of the Justice Society is sure to generate lots of interest. The fact that many outside of the comic book world are unfamiliar with the group just makes the idea even greater, as it’s not tied to any preconceptions that those in the Justice League are bound to.
Now, whether anti-hero Black Adam becomes part of the Justice Society or not, as he did in the comics despite reluctance from Captain Marvel and others, only adds to the excitement of what’s to come.
