Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange 2 film, officially titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has a new trailer that debuted during Sunday’s Super Bowl.
The Doctor Strange 2 Super Bowl trailer revealed the return of Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The trailer also showed newcomers Xochitl Gomez playing America Chavez, Michael Stuhlbarg as Dr. Nicodemus West, Elizabeth Olsen reprising her role as Wanda Maximoff who is now known as the Scarlet Witch.
In the Doctor Strange 2 Super Bowl trailer, we see Doctor Steven Strange continue to face the consequences of his choices he made earlier in the series while the threat of a multiverse collapsing is near. We see glimpses of Strange in futuristic handcuffs during a scene where he seems to be facing some sort of judgment for his decisions, which led to a mysterious figure with a familiar voice. That voice sounded a lot like old Charles Xavier played by Patrick Stewart. The voice said, “we should tell him the truth.”
We also see more of Gomez as America Gomez, a conflict brewing between Strange and Ejiofor’s Mordo, and an evil Doctor Strange. The Super Bowl trailer reveals more of Wanda who looks a lot like she’s going to be doing more damage than help. Based on what we’ve seen so far in the Super Bowl trailer, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks like we’re going to be seeing a lot of nightmarish visuals.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is directed by Sam Raimi who replaced Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. Raimi is no stranger to Marvel characters. He directed the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy by Sony Pictures. Doctor Strange 2 is written by Loki show-runner Michael Waldron. He replaced Jade Halley Bartlett.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres in theaters on May 6, 2022.
