Moon Knight, the newest Marvel series for Disney+, will premiere on Wednesday, March 30, though it’s a title that might not be known to many outside of comic book readers.
Created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin, the character first appeared in Werewolf by Night #32 back in 1975.
Inverse.com took a look at MCU’s latest show, Moon Knight, explaining how it might ultimately connect to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The show follows protagonist Marc Spector, played by Oscar Isaac, otherwise known as Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi’s Poe Dameron. Spector is vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder and is bestowed with powers by the Egyptian god Khonshu.
Throughout his lifetime in comics, Spector has exhibited supernatural powers such as enhanced strength during nights with full moons, prophetic visions and dreams, and the ability to drain other people’s life energies through physical contact.
However, Marvel has been rather mum about what powers the TV version will display, and even less vague about how Moon Knight might fit in with other characters from the MCU as not much was revealed in the first trailer for the show.
There have been rumors that Moon Knight will fit in with Marvel’s Midnight Sons plans, tentatively set for Phase 4 of the MCU’s upcoming film slate. Comic fans know the Midnight Sons to be a team of heroes who come together to fight supernatural threats, and notorious characters such as Blade, The Punisher, Doctor Strange and Ghost Rider have joined Moon Knight as members over the years.
And since it’s been heavily reported that Mahershala Ali’s Blade will have a surprise cameo in Moon Knight and Dracula may have a prominent role, it only feed into the rumor of the Midnight Sons coming to be sooner rather than later.
We could even speculate that Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman from Eternals may join the Midnight Sons. During one of the Eternals post-credits scene, Mahershala Ali’s Blade spoke to him asking if he’s ready.
Therefore, Moon Knight may follow in the trajectory of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, to help expand the supernatural side of the MCU.
If the rumors are false, there’s still plenty for Spector to do in the MCU. For one, he could easily become a member of the MCU’s post-Endgame Avengers, Inverse theorizes.
After all, Moon Knight was a member of the West Coast Avengers, the Secret Avengers, the Marvel Knights, the Defenders, the Heroes for Hire, and several other teams in comic lure, so he has plenty of history to draw upon for his future.
Thankfully, in less than two months, Marvel’s Moon Knight will come to our screens on Disney+ and we will be on our way to an answer. For now, you can watch the Moon Knight trailer released last night during the NFL Wildcard game here.
