The Book of Boba Fett: What To Know Before Watching Disney+ Series

The Book of Boba Fett has arrived from a galaxy far, far away and into viewers’ homes. The second live-action Star Wars series on Disney+ premiered Wednesday and it puts the spotlight on a fan-favorite bounty hunter most known for chasing down Han Solo all over the Star Wars Galaxy and bringing him back to Jabba the Hutt incased in frozen carbonite.

But before you watch The Book of Boba Fett, here’s a quick refresher for the infamous bounty hunter.

    Who is Boba Fett?

Boba Fett is a clone of Jango Fett. Jango was a Mandalorian foundling and bounty hunter who was used to make the clone troopers for the army of the Republic on a planet called Kamino. As a young kid, Boba witnessed the death of his father, Jango, when he was killed in battle by Jedi Master Mace Windu who was played by Samuel L. Jackson in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Boba Fett is not considered to be a Mandalorian. Though he does wear Mandalorian armor like Jango, he doesn’t follow the same code that Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) does in The Mandalorian.

Boba Fett in the Original Star Wars Trilogy

In the original Star Wars trilogy, Boba Fett was initially introduced in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. He worked for Jabba the Hutt and brought Han Solo to Tatooine’s crime boss frozen in carbonite. In Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker and his team had planned a rescue mission. Princess Leia defrosted Han Solo but right after, both were captured by Jabba the Hutt.

In an ensuing sail barge battle, Princess Leia kills Jabba while a blind Han unintentionally knocks Boba Fett into the sarlacc pit, which slowly digests its victims over a thousand years. Despite being swallowed by the beast, Boba Fett returned in the second season of The Mandalorian. The answer to how he escaped the sarlacc pit should be answered in The Book of Boba Fett.

He retrieved his armor from Din Djarin and formed a partnership with an assassin named Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen, after she’s left for dead on Tatooine. Now she is indebted to him.

This all leads to The Book of Boba Fett. The Disney+ series takes place after The Mandalorian season 2 and follows Boba as he fills in the void left by Jabba the Hutt as a crime lord.

“Jabba the Hutt ruled with fear. I intend to rule with respect,” says Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) in The Book of Boba Fett trailer.

The first episode of The Book of Boba Fett fills in some key loop holes in his journey from his daring escape from the sarlacc pit and back into his role as one of the galaxy’s feared bounty hunter.

The first of seven episodes of The Book of Boba Fett is now streaming on Disney+.
