HBO’s House of the Dragon is currently under production and while there’s less source material for the Game of Thrones prequel show, producers will have more creative room to go their own way with details. But production still seem to be casting characters from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. Though minor, they will still play a part in the much-anticipated series on HBO.
The Game of Thrones Prequel Finds Its Ellyn Baratheon
According to emmadarcyhotd’s Instagram, Laura Lake has been cast as Ellyn Baratheon for House of the Dragon. Laura Lake herself confirm it on a spotlight page. Lake has been on shows including Pennyworth, Call the Midwife and Bridgerton.
Who is Ellyn Baratheon
Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon will also include Ellyn Baratheon, one of the four daughters of Lord Borros Barathon of Storm’s End. Ellyn and her sisters were known as the Four Storms. They would probably come near the start of the Dance of the Dragons — the brutal civil war that pits different factions of the Targaryen family against each other, which will be the main conflict for the Game of Thrones prequel.
When the war begins, Aemon Targaryen, who supports his brother Aegon’s claim to the Iron Throne, arrives at Storm’s End to meet with Lord Borros and secure an allegiance. Borros agrees under on condition that Aemond marries on of his daughters, which could possibly be Ellyn. Soon after the meeting, Prince Lucerys Velaryon arrives at Storm’s End also hoping to secure an allegiance with Borros for his mother Rhaenyra Targaryen, who also had a claim to the Iron Throne.
Towards the end of the story, Ellyn Baratheon and her sisters attend the coronation of King Aegon Targaryen III. Later, she was put forward as a possible bride for the new king.
There’s no further details how big of a role Ellyn will have in the Game of Thrones prequel. Perhaps the Aemond-Lucerys conflict may not even be in House of the Dragon’s first season, but when you plan to tell a story this big, every character and detail counts.
House of the Dragon premieres sometime in 2022 on HBO and HBO Max.
