It is finally here—the Uncharted live-action film adaptation that was promised to us ages ago—ten years to be exact. After cycling through seven different directors, it seems the current creators are sticking to the original script. Video game fans rejoice at the familiar action sequences present in the Uncharted trailer, which was released earlier this morning.
What is Uncharted?
For those unfamiliar, Uncharted is a popular Sony Playstation video game franchise featuring Indiana Jones-like adventures. It stars Nathan Drake, an explorer, treasure chaser, and fight instigator. There are at least four games in the main series. Action scenes, such as the plane sequence from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, are highlighted specifically in the trailer and eventual movie.
What Can Fans Expect from the Film?
Fans can expect great promise from this upcoming film. Beloved actor Tom Holland is set to play young Nathan Drake, along with Mark Wahlberg playing Sully, Drake’s father. Wahlberg was meant to play Nathan Drake ten years ago, but the directors decided to take an alternate route. Sophia Taylor Ali is also confirmed as Chloe Frazer, who is younger in this version and knows Sully. The upcoming film is set to predate the video games’ storyline, acting more as a prequel. Focusing on a younger Nathan Drake will reveal more of where this character got his start as such a charming adventurer.
Will the Two Mediums Differ?
Already, fans have pointed out a few ways the two mediums differ. Holland feels far too young when compared to his grizzly and very adult counterpart in the video games. Also, his American accent reminds fans mostly of his role as Spiderman. Voice actor Nolan North portrays video game Nathan Drake, and though he is American, his voice comes with a more mature tone. Despite that, fans are still excited to see what the movie has in store, especially as it is Sony-approved.
What Else Can Fans Look Forward To?
Besides Uncharted, another Naughty Dog game adaptation is on its way to the big screen. Fans can look forward to the gaming studio producing an HBO TV version of The Last of Us, another highly popular game among fandoms. The Last of Us is set to star Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
Don’t miss the live-action film version of Uncharted, which is set to hit theaters on February 18th, 2022. Finally, fans collectively say. In the meantime, check out the video games on their original PlayStation platforms!
