The Flash won’t officially arrive to movie theaters until Nov. 4, 2022, but thankfully fans don’t need to wait 17 months for some intel. The movie, which stars Ezra Miller as the titular hero and Michael Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne, draws inspiration from the popular DC Comics’ Flashpoint arc.
Directed by Andy Muschietti, it’s already been confirmed that Michael Keaton would reprise his role as Batman, which he played in the 1989 Tim Burton Batman movie, and its sequel, Batman Returns, three years later. Another actor who played the iconic Dark Knight, Ben Affleck, is also set to appear.
The Flash is expected to disregard the events of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, focusing on the two movies that Keaton starred in, and the two that Affleck was part of.
In a new photo released by Warner Bros., the studio teases somewhat of a brutal destiny for Keaton’s version of the character, as it shows the unmistakable costume the actor wore in his previous Batman films with a suspicious bloodstain over the Bat symbol.
The movie’s premise plays with the space-time continuum when the Flash travels back in time to save his mother, altering the future with his actions. That sets up the stage for the multiple Batmans.
According to Collider, the idea will help the DC universe move beyond the Zack Snyder era of DC movies, which included Justice League and Batman vs. Superman.
While production of The Flash started in April with the reveal of a new logo, and some further casting choices to whet the appetite of fans, there’s not much else known about the film.
Muschietti is said to be keeping things very close to the vest and that should mean some fun surprises for DC fans when the movie is finally released. While spoilers will most likely continue over the next year and half, the film is expected to be a blockbuster.
