Venom: Let There Be Carnage Trailer Features Spider-Man and Avengers Easter Eggs

Venom: Let There Be Carnage Trailer Easter Eggs

Venom: Let There Be Carnage first trailer has dropped and it came with a juicy Easter egg. Now it’s time for all the Marvel fan theories to start coming out. The trailer featured a quick scene with a police officer, played by Stephen Graham, reading The Daily Bugle newspaper. As you’ll see, the newspaper layout mirrors the version of The Daily Bugle in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. Perhaps, this is the first hint that Venom 2 actually has a connection to a larger Marvel franchise. Either way, this is a fun tease for Marvel fans.

You can see the side-by-side comparison in the tweets above as they show the newspaper design and layout are definitely similar. The other cool Easter egg is while Graham’s character slams the newspaper shut in anger, there’s also a headline that looks like a reference to the Avengers.

Where Will Venom Fit In The Marvel Universe?

Sony continues to be vague with the characters in their Marvel Universe and the actual Marvel Cinematic Universe under the Marvel Studios franchise. According to Venom 2 director Andy Serkis, the characters in Venom: Let There Be Carnage are still not aware of Spider-Man’s existence.

“Obviously, there are links between Venom and Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe and the Spider-Man story, but in this, we’re treating this very much as it’s his own world, the Venom story is his own world,” Serkis told IGN. “There are nods and little moments just like this, the newspaper Daily Bugle, of course, but on the whole, he’s unaware, they’re unaware, at this point of other characters like Spider-Man. So that’s the way we’ve chosen to play this particular episode of the movie but well we’ll wait and see what little things you can pick out of it.”

Serkis continues to tease fans with that last sentence in his quote. Maybe the same Daily Bugle newspaper from Raimi’s Spider-Man movies in Venom: Let There Be Carnage could actually turn out to be a connection between Venom being in a larger “Marvel universe”.

When Spider-Man: No Way Home debuts this December, Sony and Marvel Studios’ partnership will hit another milestone. If Sony wants Spider-Man to go out with a big bang in the future, maybe it’s time for them to consider Tom Holland and Tom Hardy finally meeting each other on the big screen as Peter Parker vs. Eddie Brock — Spider-Man vs. Venom.
