The Falcon and The Winter Soldier “Power Broker” Episode
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 3 — “Power Broker” — starts off with the GRC in action as Walker leads a crew into a small café in Germany, where he is on the search for Karli Morgenthau. This is our first look at how aggressive and different Walker is from Steve Rogers as he shakes down the café owner for answers.
Karli is currently in a GRC Resettlement Camp and sits at the bedside of a dying woman, Mama Donya, to say her final goodbyes. She is clearly upset over this and we can only assume this death will spur her movement forward.
So What About Bucky and Sam?
Bucky and Sam travel to Berlin to see Zemo (Daniel Brühl). After Bucky conducts an elaborate plan to break Zemo out of his cell, the three team up and board Zemo’s plane to Madripoor. Zemo claims they’ll be able to receive information on the new super soldiers from someone named Selby.
In Madripoor, they meet Selby who informs them that Doctor Wilfred Nagel is the man in charge of creating the super soldier serum. Before they can get more information, Selby is shot by bounty hunters, who then chase after Zemo, Sam, and Bucky. As they run through the city, they find help from a familiar friend who appears from the shadows: Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp).
Does Sharon Help Bucky and Sam?
Sharon, who has been off-grid in Madripoor, agrees to help in exchange for Sam clearing her name in the States. She finds the location of Dr. Nagel and brings the three to a shipping containment lot where he hides his laboratory. Nagel was working for HYDRA before working for the CIA. However, he disappeared during the Blip, only to return to see the super soldier program shut down. He came to Madripoor to continue his work.
He further explains how he went on to make twenty vials of serum under the direction of a mysterious, unseen figure named the “Power Broker”. However, the vials have been stolen. He reports that he received a phone call from Morgenthau asking for help with Mama Donya. Before they can hear more, bounty hunters appear. After Zemo shoots Nagel, he, Sam, Bucky, and Sharon take off running. Zemo blows up a pipe and takes out the remaining bounty hunters. He, Sam, and Bucky head back to the States while Sharon stays behind in Madripoor. She heads toward a waiting car and tells her driver they’ve got problems – but we don’t hear what those problems are.
How Does The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 3 End?
Outside of a GRC Supply Depo, Karli and a fellow Flag Smasher mourn Mama Donya. Karli then reports that Nagel has been killed. This means they are in possession of the last remaining vials of serum. The Power Broker, Karli explains, is going to come begging to them.
Torres gives Donya’s location to Sam. Sam, Bucky, and Zemo redirect their course in hopes of finding Karli there. While Sam and Zemo go inside, Bucky stays outside. He comes across Kimoyo Beads and tracks them up an alley that leads him to Ayo – one of the Dora Milaje from Wakanda – who has come for Zemo.
We’re not quite sure what Ayo has in store for Zemo, nor what will happen when the group finds Karli, but you can bet answers are on the horizon. This episode also sparked a new question: who is the Power Broker?
