The Mandalorian Nabs Golden Globe Nomination For Best TV Drama

It looks like the popularity of Baby Yoda has catapulted The Mandalorian to critical acclaim as the show earned its first-ever Golden Globe award nomination this year, in the category of Best TV Drama.

The official Star Wars Twitter account celebrated the nomination with a special Tweet.

“Congratulations to The Mandalorian on its nomination for Best Drama Television Series at the Golden Globes!” it said.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards nominees on Feb. 3. This is the first Golden Globe award nom for any Disney+ show, and it came as a surprise to many.

However, with the critical acclaim and almost universal love of the series from Star Wars fans around the globe, it’s not entirely shocking. The Golden Globes historically has provided noms to cult classics and pop sensations that don’t otherwise normally find their way to some of the other award shows.

And The Mandalorian did pick up a nom for Outstanding Drama Series at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as winning seven Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards at the event. It also won the Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Series award at the first-ever Television Critics Association Super Awards.

Being nominated is one thing, but The Mandalorian faces some tough competition in the category. The shows it is up against consists of royal drama The Crown, crime drama Ozark, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel Ratched, and HBO Max’s horror series Lovecraft Country.

The second season of The Mandalorian has plenty of the buzz worthy moments that critics love, including a cameo from original Star Wars hero, Luke Skywalker and plenty of action involving Boba Fett, who was revealed to be alive.

The success of The Mandalorian, created by Jon Favraeu and starring Pedro Pascal, has been a boon to Disney+, as it’s set in motion the spinoff series, The Book of Boba Fett, and another is in the works with Rosario Dawson reprising her Ahsoka Tano character.

We wish The Mandalorian best when the awards are announced on Feb. 28.
