In the past couple months, there’s been rumors circling that Daredevil actor Charlie Cox would be involved, in one form or another, with the third Tom Holland Spider-Man film. According to Comicbook.com, Cox was on the set of the Marvel Studios movie and learned he has wrapped filming.
Cox would be playing Matt Murdock aka Daredevil alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. At this point, it’s still unclear if we’re going to be getting Cox’s Netflix version of Daredevil that fans have come to love. Perhaps, it’s another version of Murdock that would reboot Hell’s Kitchen’s blind guardian.
Knowing that Benedict Cumberbatch will be in Spider-Man 3 along with other characters from the Sony Spider-Man films, Murdock coming in from a multiverse wouldn’t be all that impossible. Especially with the upcoming Dr. Strange sequel being titled Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
When Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer, Kevin Feige, was asked about the rumors swirling around Spider-Man 3 and how the multiverse will work in the movie, he only teased the future based off the next Dr. Strange movie.
“The biggest clue is the title of the second Doctor Strange movie. That’s the biggest clue of where the Multiverse of Madness is taking us and how we’re exploring that,” Feige said. “It’s surreal to me that we’re talking about a Spider-Man 3. I worked on a movie called ‘Spider-Man 3’ many years ago directed by Mr. Sam Raimi. So this, clearly, the shorthand of calling it ‘Spider-Man 3′ now, it’s fine. We call it ‘Homecoming 3.'”
In April of 2020, Comicbook.com’s Adam Barnhardt spoke to Cox. At that time, Cox denied any involvement with the third Spider-Man film in the MCU. Keep in mind, Netflix still had the rights to Daredevil when he was asked.
“I hadn’t heard those rumors, but it’s certainly not with my Daredevil. I’m not involved in it,” Cox told us. “If that’s true, it’s not with me. It’s with another actor.”
The Daredevil rights are now with Marvel Studios.
MCU’s Phase 4 is really starting to take shape with more details coming from Feige. And now with WandaVision finally premiering yesterday, Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to with upcoming Marvel Studios films and tv shows.
