Oscar Isaac became world-famous for his turn as the heroic Poe Dameron in the most recent Star Wars trilogy, and with his time in the franchise now over, he appears ready to tackle a new force. According to Deadline, the actor is in negotiations to star in the title role of Moon Knight, the upcoming Marvel and Disney+ series based on the comic book hero.
The Umbrella Academy’s writer Jeremy Slater is set to develop and lead the writing team of the show and hopes to follow in the success of his Netflix hit.
For those not familiar with Moon Knight, he is the alter ego of Marc Spector, a mercenary who has numerous other alter egos, such as cabbie Jake Lockley and millionaire playboy Steven Grant. He takes on these different personalities to better fight the criminal underworld. Most recently, the comic had him as a consultant who dresses in all-white and goes by the name Mr. Knight. Moon Knight is also a conduit of Egyptian moon god Khonshu.
Oscar Isaac has been rather busy since his run in Star Wars ended. He has several films set to be released soon, including Paul Schrader thriller The Card Counter and Denis Villeneuve’s reboot of Dune. The actor also recently joined HBO’s limited series Scenes from a Marriage,reuniting with his old Julliard classmate Jessica Chastain.
It’s also been a busy time for the Marvel and Disney+ partnership, as the two giants have been ramping up their development slate. Among the things in the works are She-Hulk, which will start Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany, and Ms. Marvel, which is set to star Iman Vellani. There’s also The Falcon and Winter Soldier series. No timetable has been announced for Moon Knight, but it’s expected it will start shooting in early 2021 with a late 2021 or early 2022 bow.
