Halloween Kills Guaranteed to Be Released Next October

The number of new movies that were scheduled to be released in 2020, but were postponed due to COVID-19 concerns is plentiful, and studios continue to shuffle around film dates, moving them a year or even two years down the line.

That was the case for John Carpenter’s two upcoming sequels to Halloween, titled Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, which were scheduled for release this October and next October, respectively, but were pushed to October 2021 and 2022.

In announcing the decision earlier this year, Carpenter penned a note to fans on the movie’s official website.

“We write this heartbroken over the fact that the delay of our film is even a discussion, but if there’s one thing that a career in the film industry has prepared us for, it is the unexpected,” he wrote. “Over the past few weeks, our film family has looked at the forecast of theatrical exhibition with obvious concern….If we release it in October of this year as planned, we have to face the reality that the film would be consumed in a compromised theatrical experience. After weighing our options, we have chosen to push the film’s theatrical release by one year.”

According to Comicbook.com, producer Jason Blum told Forbes recently that regardless of whether COVID-19 is still keeping people away from movie theaters, the release dates won’t change again.

“If this is still going on next Halloween? No, we’re not holding it,” he said. “Halloween Kills is coming out next October come hell or high water, vaccine or no vaccine. It is coming out.”

The movie is rumored to pick up soon after the events of David Gordon Green’s 2018 Halloween, with star Jamie Lee Curtis in tow as Laurie Strode. The third film in the trilogy will theoretically end the spooky chapter.

Still, Blum promised that the second movie won’t end with lots of questions and described Halloween Kills as a complete story.

“There’s a first, second, and third act. It has a big end,” he said. “You still know from the end of the second movie where the third movie is going, but the second movie ends in a totally satisfying way. So, it doesn’t feel like, you know, that Lord of the Rings issue that they had.”

Expect to see Halloween Kills released on Oct. 15, 2021, and Halloween Ends on Oct. 14, 2022. If you missed the Halloween Kills teaser, watch it here:
