After several Paul W.S. Anderson Resident Evil movies starring Mila Jovovich, the video game turned feature film will return to the big screen. This time, the Resident Evil movie reboot will go back to the original first two games with an entirely new cast.
“With this movie I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences,” Resident Evil writer and director Jonathan Roberts said.
The cast and their respective game characters are Kaya Scodelario is playing Claire Redfield, Robbie Amell is Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper is Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia is Leon S. Kennedy, Hannah John-Kamen is Jill Valentine, and Neal McDonough is William Birkin. If you’re familiar with the game, these characters are from the original storyline that takes place that one “fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998.”
This will be the seventh film in the Resident Evil franchise.
This movie reboot is currently in pre-production, but isn’t the only adaptation of the Capcom game in the works. Netflix is currently developing two projects — There’s the CG animated version, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which will feature Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Then there’s an 8-episode live-action series based on fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness debuts sometime next year on Netflix. No word regarding the release dates for the Resident Evil movie reboot or the Netflix live-action series.
