The popularity of Cobra Kai exploded ever since the streaming series moved over to Netflix from Youtube Red. Now it’s taking adult fans familiar with The Karate Kid trilogy on a nostalgic ride while sprinkling in some teenage drama for the younger fans. Today, Cobra Kai season three teaser trailer dropped along with the release date. For anyone who hasn’t seen the first two seasons, we highly recommend you spend your quiet weekend (or weekday) afternoons with some karate! Cobra Kai is an entertaining continuation of Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence’s (William Zabka) re-ignited feud. It takes place 30 years after the events of Karate Kid. This time, the story’s central conflict is about Johnny Lawrence reviving Cobra Kai and changing its philosophy. Daniel is skeptic and still believes Johnny and Cobra Kai are trouble.
The first season focused more on Johnny and his path to a comeback story while becoming a mentor to bullied and less popular kids. Daniel felt more like the antagonist and even came off a little arrogant. Season two was more even between the two as some Cobra Kai students were starting to become what Cobra Kai was in the past and the Miyagi-Do students were showing more empathy. Still, season two had that Captain America: Civil War tone where fans could be team Iron Man or team Captain America and who is right or wrong. The same goes for Cobra Kai. Fans are starting to choose sides – Team Johnny or Team Daniel.
Cobra Kai Season 2 Spoiler Alert
The season two finale had a battle royale style fight between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do students during school. The all-out brawl seemed to have favored the Miyagi-Do students. Daniel’s student, Robby, kicks Johnny’s top student, Miguel, off the second floor and lands his back on a staircase’s handrails.
The finale left fans wondering what’s next for season three and the characters. We last saw Miguel in a coma and neck brace and Johnny walking away leaving his phone and car on a beach, which ends with a little teaser of Ali (Elizabeth Shue) sending Johnny a friend request on social media. Robby ran away and Daniel was with his daughter, Sam, tending to her injuries from the fight at school. The highly-anticipated season three returns January 8, 2021 on Netflix. The streaming service also announced Cobra Kai has been renewed for season 4. Cobra Kai never dies. At least, not anytime soon.
