OBI-WAN KENOBI: Ewan McGregor Gives Update On The Disney+ Series

OBI-WAN KENOBI: Ewan McGregor Gives Update On The Disney+ Series

The Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi is ready to be back on track after many delays like shifting from a feature film to a series. Then script rewrites. And after many years of speculation, Ewan McGregor at 2019’s D23 confirmed his return as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ewan McGregor gave some updates on the Disney+ series. Here’s what we know so far:

    Is It A Limited Series?

While McGregor was speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he said, “As I understand, it’s a standalone season.” He also leaves open the possibility of more when he was asked about a second season. “We’ll see. Who knows?” But right now, it seems like it will be a one and done standalone season.

    Who’s Behind The Scenes?

Deborah Chow will be director and executive producer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. She directed two episodes for The Mandalorian last year, which both became fan favorites – “Chapter 3: The Sin” and “Chapter 7: The Reckoning”. Ewan McGregor will also serve as producer along with Kathleen Kennedy who is executive producer for all things Star Wars.

When Does Filming Begin For The Obi-Wan Kenobi series?

McGregor also confirmed with Entertainment Tonight that production is scheduled to start early 2021. “Spring next year we start. I’m really excited about it. It’s gonna be great, I think.”

    Who Is In The Cast?

So far the only confirmed cast member for the limited series is Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Of course plenty of rumors and ideas are circling around with who else might be playing a part in the series. There are even reports that Hayden Christiansen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker. And that there will be plenty of Clone Wars era flashbacks.

There are other rumors that suggest Darth Vader will make an appearance as well as Temuera Morrison as Clone Commander Cody. There’s been reports that Lucasfilm is looking for children to play young versions Luke and Leia. Force ghost and voice for Qui-Gonn Jinn suggests Liam Neeson will also be part of the cast.

AGAIN, these are just rumors and none are confirmed except for Ewan McGregor.

    What Will It Be About?

Plot details are very limited about the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series. Only one major detail is confirmed. It takes place 8 years after the events of Revenge of The Sith and eleven years before A New Hope. It looks like this is the time he spent exiled on Tatooine.

Some rumors say that the delay was because of script rewrites. The initial story would be about a Jedi (Obi-Wan Kenobi) protecting a young child from being hunted down. Perhaps this is Luke Skywalker. This plot was too close to The Mandalorian, so the story had to be rewritten. Unconfirmed rumors suggest the story is now about Darth Vader hunting Obi-Wan.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series was originally supposed to be a feature-length film. But after Solo flopped in the box office, the studio decided to hold off on all standalone Star Wars movies and opted for more Disney+ shows. With the success of The Mandalorian, that’s probably a good move. Plus we get more Obi-Wan Kenobi.

How Many Episodes Are In The Obi-Wan Kenobi series?

There will be six episodes in the season according to McGregor. There was no word on how long each will be. To see Ewan McGregor as the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi again would be a treat in itself. No matter how long or short the season is.
