It’s been a while since we’ve seen The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs fight off the undead. Riggs, who played Carl Grimes on AMC’s zombie drama series, exited the show on its eighth season. The young actor has gone on to act and produce projects with past TWD co-stars including Madison Lintz (Sophia) and Katelyn Nacon (Enid.) Riggs just recently finished a project that makes him the new web-slinger in a short film titled The Spider.
Riggs is portraying the iconic character Peter Parker in a short film that has no association with Marvel or Sony. “Based off of characters from The Amazing Spider-Man comics by Marvel,” says the movie’s teaser trailer description on Youtube. “This is a non-profit fan film, unaffiliated and not endorsed by Marvel, Sony, or Disney.”
The Spider is a horror genre spin on Spider-Man. Think 2019’s Brightburn — a film that portrays a young Kal-El (Superman) if he came to Earth as a dangerous being from another planet rather than the iconic superhero we know of.
We’ve had three live-action iterations of the character on the big screen and a few animated versions. Riggs and company came up with a scary adaptation of the Marvel character. “A new horror take on Spider-Man,” the trailer’s description reads. According to the trailer for The Spider, the short horror film is directed and written by Andy Chen and is produced by Artin John and Kealani Kitaura. It stars Chandler Riggs and features Caylee Cowan, Matthew Vorce, Kyra Gardner, Holgie Forrester, Carl Addicott, David Rice, Andrew Hernon, Kealani Kitaura, Ronan Arthur and Ben Thomas.
The Walking Dead star also owns a production company. Riggs recently told Comicbook.com at the premiere of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live that he has been working with his past TWD co-stars on a new project separate from The Spider.
“It’s a short film that myself and my roommate both on the production company and we’re directing, producing,” Riggs said about his new project. “It’s actually with Katelyn and with Madison Lintz who played Sophia on the show and a bunch of other of our actor friends, and it’s this fun, cool thriller and we got this just awesome grant from Panavision. So we’re just trying to just do everything we can to make it as good as it can be.”
