Ryan Reynolds and team Deadpool did it! Deadpool 3 is putting Wolverine in classic yellow (and blue) comic book costume colors — and Hugh Jackman looks great in it!
On Monday morning, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds shared the photo of him in full costume next to Jackman’s Wolverine on his Instagram story. The Deadpool 3 image gives fans a look at Jackman finally wearing the more accurate colors from the comic books for the first time in 23 years since playing the character back in 2000’s X-Men.
On the official Deadpool movie Twitter account, you can see the first-look photo in higher quality (also shown below). While it’s not 100% comic book accurate, it’s still pretty cool to see Jackman’s Wolverine suiting up with the colors fans have become familiar with from Marvel Comics.
Deadpool 3 has Jackman returning since playing the character for the first time in 2000’s X-Men. He would continue to play the adamantium-clawed mutant with super, fast healing for eight more movies ending with the R-rated Logan film in 2017.
“It’s been fun,” Reynolds told ET Canada earlier this year about bringing back Jackman to play Wolverine again in Deadpool 3. “He and I are both really excited. We’ve wanted to do this for a decade. So, to have this opportunity now is, I think actually weirdly, the perfect time… I never stopped [trying to recruit Jackman]. I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I believe in timing, as much as hard work and luck and all those intersections that are supposed to meet, timing is a big one as well, and I think he was ready.”
Reynolds continued: “I think he was excited and what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
Jackman isn’t the only actor coming back to an old role for Deadpool 3. It was confirmed last week that Jennifer Garner will return to the Marvel universe as Elektra for the first time since playing the character in 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s Elektra film. Previously being a part of Ben Affleck’s version of Daredevil, there’s no announcement of Affleck joining the Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine in Deadpool 3. At least not yet.
Mark your calendars to see Deadpool 3 with Wolverine on May 3, 2024. Will Jackman’s Wolverine wear the iconic cowl also? Will have to wait and see.
