Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now streaming on Disney+ and in time to celebrate Black History Month. The Marvel film, which premiered in theaters on November 11, is one of the biggest movies of 2022. Wakanda Forever earned $453.1 million in the Unites States and Canada and amassed a worldwide box office total of $842 million.
Not only was Black Panther: Wakanda Forever a box-office hit, it’s also making history as the first Marvel film to be nominated an Oscar in the acting category. Angela Bassett, who plays Queen Ramonda, has been nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award in this year’s Academy Awards. Bassett previously was nomintated for Best Actress for her performance as Tina Turner in 1993’s What’s Love Got To Do With It. Along with Bassett’s Oscar nomination, she also won Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes.
Wakanda Forever is also received for other Oscar nominations including Best Original Song by Rihanna, Best Costume Design, Makeup & Hairstyling, and Best Visual Effects. The 95th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023. It will be broadcasted live on ABC 8 PM ET / 5PM PT.
In the film, Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye, and the Dora Milaje must fight to protect Wakanda from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. The Wakandans must stay strong as they face numerous threats including Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and his people from the underwater kingdom of Telocan.
2018’s Black Panther director Ryan Coogler returns to direct the Wakanda Forever with a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole. The film stars Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda, Letitia Wright as Princess Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoya, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, Michaela Coel as Aneka, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, and Tenoch Huerta as Namor.
