A new trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie arrived online and while the first trailer focused more on the franchise’s villain, Bowser, this one focuses more on Nintendo’s Italian plumbers, Mario and Luigi, and all the other lovable characters from the Mario franchise.
Based on what we saw on The Super Mario Bros. Movie second trailer, the Nintendo and Illumination film took parts from other Mario games and included them into the story. We see Mario, voiced by Chris Pratt, in what looks like Donkey Kong. There’s also Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart.
The trailer opens with a Super Smash Bros.-inspired brawl between Mario and Donkey Kong. Other scenes reveal Prince Peach for the first time as she, Mario, Toad and Luigi team up against Bowser. At the end of The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer, fans get to see the characters in full Mario Kart action racing on the iconic track, Rainbow Road.
Besides Pratt, The Super Mario Bros. Movie includes voice talent from Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Jack Black as Bowswer, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. We hear that Charles Martinet who voices Mario in the video games will also be in the animated film.
This trailer really shows how beautiful and colorful The Super Mario Bros. Movie animation is. Illumination really put a lot into this mega-franchise. At least visually. As for the film itself, audiences will have to wait to see if it lives up to the expectations of a brand that is so iconic in the pop-culture world. And if this movie becomes a big hit for Nintendo, it may be safe to say the video game company might put out more movie adaptations of their games. The Super Mario Bros. Movie isn’t just a start to a potential Mario franchise, but it could spark an extended cinematic universe for Nintendo.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie debuts in theaters only April 7, 2023. You can watch the latest trailer below:
