The first Black Adam trailer has arrived and gives DC Comics fans a closer look at Dwayne Johnson as DC’s Anti-Hero. The trailer reveals Teth-Adam (Dwayne Johnson), a slave in the fictional country of Kahndag some time in the distant past. He dies but is reborn by a magical bolt summoned by his son during some sort of ritual that would eventually take his son’s life.
Black Adam, a powerful wizard himself, is the sworn nemesis of Shazam. We don’t know yet how Johnson’s Black Adam fits into Zachary Levi’s Shazam. Johnson was originally supposed to be part of the DC Extended Universe as Black Adam back in 2019’s Shazam film. Perhaps, the two powerful beings will meet in Shazam: Fury of the Gods coming next year.
Last October, Johnson debuted a first look at the film on social media. It showed the anti-hero breaking out of imprisonment after 5,000 years. “This character, this film, this universe has been a gigantic passion project of mine for a very long time,” said Johnson. “And the truth is, I was born to play Black Adam.”
As the first Black Adam trailer revealed, the film won’t just focus on Teth-Adam himself. The trailer also teased the Justice Society of America. The DC superhero team includes Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan). Their task is to stop Black Adam but we can hear Brosnan’ Doctor Fate telling him that he can choose to either be the destroyer of this world or be its savior.
The cast also includes Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer and Uli Latukefu. There is also the group of villains called Intergang that will appear in Black Adam.
Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam comes from DC Entertainment, New Line Cinema, Warner Bros., Flynn Picture Company and Seven Bucks Productions. Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and is written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.
Black Adam premieres in theaters October 21, 2022. You can check out the Black Adam trailer below.
