As things are wrapping up with AMC Network’s eleventh and final season of its hit zombie show, The Walking Dead is nearing its final batch of episodes later this year. Fans shouldn’t be too disappointed as AMC will be rolling out spinoffs and sequel shows in the next few years. One of them will be The Walking Dead’s Daryl spinoff series starring Norman Reedus.
Originally, The Walking Dead’s Daryl spinoff was going to feature both Daryl and Carol (Melissa McBride) but McBride opted out of the series. There are no further details on how McBride’s exit will affect the story for Reedus’ show.
Reedus recently opened up about the upcoming Walking Dead Daryl spinoff on Sirius XM’s Octane. He sounded pretty excited and said he’s ready for whatever they come up with.
Norman Reedus Talks About Daryl’s Walking Dead spinoff Series
“I’m gonna go on a mission and I’m excited,” Reedus said. “It’s gonna be much different than [The Walking Dead]. I think it’s gonna look different. It’s gonna feel different. It’s kind of its own thing, you know, so I’m excited to get a hold of it.”
Reedus also shared that he doesn’t really have much control over what happens even if people think he does. He could be talking about how some folks thought he had something to do with McBride leaving the project. “People think I have all this power and I’m like… I really don’t. I’m just an actor for hire, really.”
There is no premiere date as of yet for The Walking Dead’s Daryl spinoff series but production is scheduled to begin this summer. Other TWD spinoffs include a Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) six-episode series called Isle of the Dead scheduled to release in 2023. It will be set in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan which has been cut off from the mainland. New York is now occupied by only the dead and a handful of the living trying to survive.
So for those fans who are starting to feel the end of eleven years of The Walking Dead, there’s more to be excited about. Let’s hope that everyone stays healthy and injury free.
